Sad

We all knew that Michelle Williams would face severe consequences when she publicly told interviewers that she’s considering firing Mathew Knowles. And now, it appears, the punishment has been handed out.

MediaTakeOut.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned that on October 7th, the same day that Michelle Williams releases her new album Unexpected – Beyonce Knowles will attempt to overshadow her former bandmate by releasing two songs off her new album on the national airwaves.

According to confirmed reports, the two songs off Beyonce’s upcoming album will be called “If I Were A Boy” and “Single Ladies” and radio stations nationwide will begin playing the songs on October 7th.

MediaTakeOut.com spoke with a popular radio DJ who claims that Beyonce’s release will invariably have a detrimental effect on Michelle Williams album promotion. The DJ, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, explained, “It’s amazing that Beyonce could do that to her former Destiny’s Child [bandmate] … and they’re supposed to be friends too. It’s not an accident – [Beyonce and Mathew Knowles] could have those tracks hit the air a week after Michelle’s album release. But they’re not doing that.”

unexpected update

After having the world at her feet as a member of Destiny’s Child, Michelle Williams released two gospel albums and performed in Broadway muscial Aida. On October 18, she returns with an album full of pop-tinged R&B that many of her fans have been craving for. Head over to her MySpace page to listen to a few tracks from the new album.

Listen for example to mid-tempo glam pop stomper “Hello Heartbreak,” the grim and pulsating Zone Out remix of “Hung Over” and the melodic “Stop This Car” that puts Williams’ vocals front and center. Produced by Timbaland protégé Wayne Wilkins, the CD’s infectious first single “We Break The Dawn” hit the number one spot on the Billboard Dance Chart in July. The success of the single followed her appearance on the MTV Logo New Now Next Awards where she introduced the MTV ArjanWrites.com Brink Of Fame Award (yes, yes, I’m very proud of that).

WBTD

While Beyoncé maintains her position as a modern-day superstar and Kelly Rowland instructs us to “put it in”, the third member of Destiny’s Child has been keeping a rather lower profile, releasing gospel albums, making the odd reality show appearance and treading the boards on Broadway. But now, it seems, Michelle Williams fancies a return to the charts.

‘We Break The Dawn’, the first single from her upcoming “dance-Euro-club-pop type of album”, is more than up to the job. A terrific fusion of European disco and American R&B, with lyrics about dancing “til the morning light” and a chorus that grows more irresistible with every listen, it’s almost as danceable as Rowland’s ‘Work’ – and that’s no faint praise.

Michelle Williams releases ‘We Break The Dawn’ on September 22. The album, Unexpected, follows on September 29.

New Interview

As one third of Destiny’s Child, Michelle Williams sang on on such era-defining R&B hits as ‘Independent Women’, ‘Bootylicious’ and ‘Lose My Breath’. She also managed to fit a successful solo career around her group commitments, releasing a pair of well-received gospel albums. Now, four years since her last solo record and nearly three since Destiny’s Child disbanded, she’s returning with Unexpected, a “dance-Euro-club-pop type of album”. Intrigued, we gave Michelle a call to find out more.

What made you want to leave gospel and make a dance-pop album?
“I guess ’cause I love all different types of music. I didn’t want to be pigeonholed into doing just one genre of music. You know, I was hands on with every aspect of this project. I’ve learned so much that I didn’t have the chance to learn a couple of years ago because I had to come into a group that was already established. Now it’s always my decision. If it goes well, I get the credit. If it doesn’t go so well, I get the blame!”

Are you worried about how the album might be received?
“Honestly? No, ’cause I know it’s hot. But I think it will surprise people – first of all because it’s not a gospel record, and second of all because no-one’s expecting me to do this type of music. But I’ve always kept people guessing. That’s why I’ve called the album Unexpected.”

The single, ‘We Break The Dawn’, has gone down well over here.
“I can’t wait to get back over there! People in the UK have been good to me – the response has been really surprising. Kelly [Rowland] called me last week because she heard the song on Kiss FM. She was screaming and she got me really excited.”

What’s the single about?
“It’s by Andrew Frampton and Wayne Wilkins, two guys from the UK who’ve worked with Kylie Minogue. Solange wrote the actual track. I actually wasn’t trying to work with anybody who’s close to me because of the comparisons. I just wanted to stand on my own and do it by myself, but I heard the song and I had to put my pride aside. I called Solange and said, ‘Hey, I love this song,’ and she said, ‘It’s yours’. It’s about those nights where you go out to a club and keep on dancing ’til the sun comes up.”

Is that something you do a lot?
“It depends. I have my spurts where I do that. I can last all night if the music is good.”

Do you ever go out dancing with Beyoncé and Kelly?
“Every now and then. Kelly lasts the longest because she really knows how to party.”

The video looks like it was fun to shoot – it’s basically you and ten male dancers!
“It was a long shoot, like 16 hours. It’s funny that the song’s called ‘We Break The Dawn’ actually because we had to be done by the time the sun came up. We started the shoot at 5pm and didn’t end until 7am. I hand-picked the guys in the video because there was a certain look I was going for, and I wanted guys who hadn’t been in videos before.”

Are there any truth to the Destiny’s Child reunion rumours?
“You know, honestly, there’s nothing planned at the moment and it’s great to see that people are still wanting that. But definitely in the future. We’re very much still in touch with each other. They really like the album and it’s great to have their support.”

Did you ask Beyoncé and Kelly for advice while making the album?
“I’ve never really done that with my projects. I like my space and I think we give each other space. Nobody heard this album until it was done. I don’t want opinions. Maybe it might be too different, but I know I like it.”

Michelle Williams releases ‘We Break The Dawn’ on September 22. The album, Unexpected, follows on September 29.
